10 Minute Abs

Last night, I made it my goal to sleep in until 7:00 this morning. I have been waking up daily at 5:45 am to run (or bike) and I wanted today to be a rest day in prep for the weekend. I definitely did NOT want a repeat of last week, when I basically just couldn’t physically run anymore because I was so exhausted.  I have a short run planned tomorrow, and a Longer run planned for Saturday so I wanted to be rested up!

I am in such a routine that I feel like if do not exercise at all, something feels “off” all day. I decided to share with you my 10-minute abs (which I haven’t done since I started the training plan)… oops!

I learned this when I was on the crew team freshman year of college. We would take turns calling out a different ab move but for 15 minutes and no breaks! You can do whatever moves you want, these are just what I did.

10-Minute Abs:

  • Crunches with legs in air at 90 degree angle
  • Prone Plank on elbows
  • Bicycle Crunches
  • Reverse crunches
  • Ball Twists (pretend that you are holding a ball, sit up with legs bent, and twist from side to side)
  • Crunches with legs vertical
  • Ball Crunches
  • V-ups
  • Side crunches (lay on either side and crunch up)
  • Bicycle crunches ( a repeat because I love this <3 )

I do each exercise for 45-seconds and then rest for 15 in between moves. (45 sec +15 sec) x 10 times= 10 minutes. Gotta love those equations!

I’m going to try to get back to doing this at least twice, hopefully three times per week. Keep my accountable!

After I finished my mini-workout, I made breakfast!

My bowl contained:

  • The last of the Quaker Oatmeal Squares :(
  • The last half of my Strawberry Chobani
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup Raspberries

All mixed up now…

Have a wonderful Thursday! I know I will… I get to go back to Orlando and see my favorite person!

What are your favorite ab moves? How often do you work out your abs? (I have been slacking!)

  1. You better keep your abs in check girlie. a strong core is what keeps your legs balanced while you're doing all this running. most running injuries can be prevented by keeping a strong core. that has to include your lower back too, but the point is keep doing it!

i love planks and situps. as many as i can get. I also do tons of pushups and pullups as well.

  2. thanks for the ab routine, i need a new one right now too mines getting anoying!

  3. Boo on running out of the crack. ;) You and Jason are so cute in that picture!

  4. I really love all of the ab exercises from Jillian Michaels DVDs (maybe you could check them out on youtube?) I find that anything involving a plank is totally effective, and I do a lot of those in yoga. Ex: side planks, plank holds on forearms, "twisting plank" (hold in top of a pushup and bring left knee up to right armpit, twisting. bring foot back to start and repeat on other side. continue for a minute) and "toe taps" (hold in top of a pushup, tap right foot out to the side, and back to beginning. repeat for 30 sec and then switch feet).

  5. And you get to see me, of course! ;) Hehehe. Can't wait for Sunday! It will be fun. Let me know about times.

  6. I like advanced side planks for core work, also the "ball twist" and bicycle crunches. I work my abs usually 2x per week, gotta rest those muscles too!

  9. I'm gonna start doing 10 minute abs! Love the idea! I am so bad about abs:(

  10. My fav. ab exercise: Position yourself in a plank with your toes on an exercise ball (the big ones). Pull your hips up as you pull the ball in towards your arms. You end up making an upside down V with your body.

Have fun with the boy :)

  11. Thanks for the new ab exercises. I'm not nearly as good about doing them as I should be. I think I'm like that with cross training too!

  12. I have been slacking a little bit with the abs too. :/ But I'm trying, just like you! Let's keep each other accountable. ;) Check these out: http://iamthebeholder.wordpress.com/2009/03/14/ab-solutely/

  13. Awwww you two are sooo cute!! :-)
I completely understand what you mean about feeling "off" all day. Even though our body needs those rests, it's so hard to do it!
Since my running hiatus, I've been doing a lot more strength, so I've actually been doing ab work at least 2 times per week, sometimes 3, for 20-35 minutes. I've honestly never worked my abs this much before in my life!! haha

  14. I always do the P90x ab ripper…I don't do the entire video three times a week ..maybe once a week and then the other two-four times I'll do ab exercises I'll mix some P90x moves with the captain's chair at the gym…side/reg. planks…etc. I also like to use the machines at the gym every once and a while. Full body movements like a lung/twist are good too…kill two birds with one stone!

  15. [...] I decided to get in an ab (or core) workout since I can’t do much else yet. I did a variation of my 10-minute ab routine, but went for 15 minutes instead. Ten minutes is great for time crunch, but I really wanted to do [...]
