HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
THANK YOU TO OUR TROOPS FOR FIGHTING FOR OUR FREEDOM!
Prepping for a bike ride takes a lot more work than prepping for a run! Usually with a run, all I do is:
- Layout my clothes and shoes
- Charge Garmin
- Fill up water bottle
However, I discovered that it took me about twice as long to get ready for my ride.
- Pump up tires (must be done before EACH ride)
- Check chain/brakes
- Fill up water bottle
- Layout clothes and shoes, plus change of shorts- no body likes diaper butt
- Charge Garmin
- Pack a snack, helmet, pump into car
- Pop front wheel off bike to put into car
GAAAH!
Jason helped me install this bad boy last night… Handy Dandy water holder! NO bungee cords needed like on Old Rusty! (Click here to see what I’m talking about.)
After all that packing and getting dressed was finished, I ate a lovely breakfast. My ride was starting at 8 and I knew that I would not be back to my apartment until after 11, so I decided to get up at 6 to eat. Good idea!
I already know how much and what type of food my stomach can handle before a run, but biking is SO different. Your stomach doesn’t shake around as much so I knew it would be different. I called Ashley and asked her for suggestions on something filling for fueling up for the ride. She suggested OATMEAL!
I would never eat oats before a run as I would feel so full and sick, but they worked out perfectly!
Happy Fourth of July!
I made Red, white, and blue Oatmeal!
My Oatmeal contained:
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup fat free milk
- 1/2 cup water
- strawberries, blueberries, and vanilla yogurt
- packet of splenda
YUM!!
Once I got to Ashley’s we headed out on our 20 mile bike ride! I was super nervous because it was only my second ride but I felt great!
About 8 miles in, we stopped for water and I ate half a packet of Sport Beans (sorry I didn’t have the camera but these are the exact ones). I ate the other half around mile 14! They were really light on my stomach and seemed to energize me really quickly! They come in little individual packs with only 110 calories.
Bike Stats:
- Distance: 20.0 Miles
- Time: 1 hour, 28 minutes
- Average Pace: 13.6 mph
- Fastest Speed: 26 mph!!! woah!!
- Average Heart Rate: 135 bpm
Oh yea! I forgot to mention Ashley got a flat tire like one block from her house
Once I got back I thought I was going to eat my arm off, BUT I opted for a more tasty option-I called Jason to see if we could meet up at Quizno’s. I had my usual, a small Tuscan Turkey. It has turkey, swiss, tomatoes, lettuce, and roasted red pepper sauce on Rosemary parmesan bread.
I don’t know why I always look at the menu when I go there, but ALWAYS order the same thing. I always think it would be cool to try something else, but I know that I like this, and I know that it is one of the more healthier choices. It only has 400 calories, and some of them can rack up 700 or more!
When I think of Quizno’s this is the ONLY thing I think of…
I told Jason this was “the best thing I have ever tasted in my whole entire life” but honestly I think I would have said that about anything. I WAS HANGRY!! Now I’m not though
Do you have restaurants that you always order the same exact thing? I need to venture out!
Have a great Holiday! And if you aren’t in America, a great Saturday
I better go get ready for the party!

Happy 4th of july
it sounds like you had a great bike ride! and breakfast looks really fresh and delicious..and very patriotic
have a great day!
I didn't know your breakfast was so patriotic!
I loved reading your recap
Next time we'll have to get photos! You did great!
Awesome job on your bike ride!!! I haven't been on a bike in YEARS… I can't imagine going for 20 miles!!
ya know, we have restaurants that we go to frequently… but I can't think of one that I get the same exact thing every time… WAIT, I take that back… I always get the chicken fajitas at our fav mexican place here in nashville – Rosepepper!
We had the same breakfast this morning
Have a great 4th!
Great job on the ride!! Happy 4th! I am so bad about getting the same things at restaurants all the time!
your patriotic bowl of oats looks so delish and it is absolutely perfect for the holiday
! Glad to hear you had such an awesome ride this morning and killer lunch!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday, Megan
! xo
happy 4th girlie!!
oh goodness quiznos is my favorite place!!
I always order the same thing at subway – veggie delight with pepperjack on honey oat bread
Congrats on your bike ride! I'm nervous to venture from the running world into the cycling one. But I want to so badly! Quiznos does sound like a MUCH tastier choice than an arm would be
I also have that problem of ordering my "safety" food when out to eat. I always want to try new things, but am scared it won't be as good and then I'll regret not ordering what I love! But ya' gotta take risks in life! haha
Have a fun party time!!
Wow, I didn't know you had to pump tires before each ride! Love your patriotic oats, and I'm glad you had a good bike ride.
I often order the same thing at this nearby vegetarian restaurant, Seva. It's just so darn good! If they have any specials that sound good, I'll sometimes venture out
