Saturday Thanksgiving Recap

I’m back! I had a great time in New Jersey, and it was so nice to see my BFF again!

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged since Saturday afternoon. I don’t even know where to pick back up!

Here’s what I’ve been up to since my twelve mile long run with BFF Debbie:

  • Thanksgiving Dinner with Mike (Debbie’s fiancé’s) family:
  • Sunday in NYC!
  • Pulled an all-nighter

Saturday night, we enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast!

There was plenty of wine consumed on Saturday night…

I think somewhere around 3-4 glasses each!

I’m not usually a big drinker, but how often do I get to drink wine with my BFF?

Mike’s mom bought an organic-farm raised turkey from just down the road. I could actually really taste the difference from a store bought frozen version.

There was so much food!

Everything “Thanksgiving food” you could think of was on the buffet:

I filled my plate up with a little bit of everything:

  • organic turkey
  • sweet potato casserole
  • carrots
  • asparagus
  • mashed potatoes
  • stuffing
  • cranberry sauce (first time I’ve tried it!)
  • peas
  • corn
  • dinner bread

After running 12.0 miles and not really eating a meal since then, it was EASY to finish everything on my plate.

I did however say multiple times, “if I eat ONE more pea, I’m gonna pop!”. I was uncomfortably full.

However, I managed to find room for dessert. I think there is a separate stomach compartment dedicated to dessert. At least that’s what I like to think.

Debbie and I split a plate of a bit of everything:

  • Pumpkin cream pie
  • carrot cake with cream cheese icing
  • chocolate cake with strawberry icing
  • peppermint ice cream

I had a bite of each, but I was REALLY FULL.

I can’t believe that it’s already almost Thanksgiving Day! I love the Holidays!

Thursday morning, I’m heading to Tampa with Jason and his family to have dinner with my family. It will be the first time our families meet each other, so that will be fun.

Where are you spending Thanksgiving this year?

Check back later for a NYC recap! :D

  1. LOVE that there was a turkey from a farm! That’s the way it should be! Sweet potato casserole is my obsession, it is all I care about all year long and, in addition to dessert, all I want to eat on Thanksgiving! The pumpking cream pie sounds delicious as well.

I’m spending actual Thanksgiving at my mom’s with my grandma and my boyfriend, and on Saturday we have my boyfriend’s family’s Thanksgiving!

  2. I’m doing it at home.

We got a free range turkey this year as well for a change.

Um yes there is ALWAYS room for dessert! That spread looks delicious. Thanksgiving always makes for a pretty table.

  3. The families are meeting this week? How exciting!

  4. That dessert plate looks awesome, desserts are my favorite part. I’m having my first thanksgiving with the BF’s family….yikes!

  5. I hope you liked NYC!!

And I saw that you got to go to Trader Joes, hope you stocked up on goodness.

  6. I agree about the seperate compartment for dessert!

  7. wow! all the food looks great! can’t wait for thursday :)

  8. Your post is making me so hungry for Thanksgiving — I’m thankful that’s only a couple of days away. :)

  9. I fully 100% believe there is a separate compartment for dessert. There is always room for something sweet! :) That dinner looked amazing, I really can’t wait until Thursday! YUM! I’m so happy you had a great time with Deb. You deserved a fun, relaxing mini-vacay! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week.

  10. Good luck introducing your families!

I am spending T-Day in western NY with my boyfriend’s family. My parents haven’t met his parents yet. I wonder when that will finally happen. Makes me nervous, haha!

  11. How awesome that your families get to meet :) I will be having Thanksgiving at my in-laws house this year, which will be the first time ever, even though we’ve been together for 10 years and married for 4, ha ha!

Love the wine glasses, too cute :) And I think it’s really great that his mom got the organic turkey.

  12. LOL that’s exactly what my grandpa would always say – there’s a separate stomach compartment for dessert!! :-)

  13. Ever since I was little I used to say “my dessert compartment is empty”!

  14. There is DEFINITELY a different stomach compartment for dessert. I can get way stuffed on regular food but still be craving dessert. A bad habit I have is eating a small dessert when I eat too much regular food. For some reason it makes my stomach feel better? lol

  15. That really is quite the spread! I think Carl would agree with your “sweet stomach compartment” because he ate a HUGE dinner and just said “I’m still hungry because I want something sweet”. Love it!
