I’m a little late on making my new years’ resolutions.
I wanted to give it some thought before I announced them officially. While thinking, I decided that I don’t like resolutions. I feel like resolutions are just wishes that we don’t really know how to achieve.
Instead, I like goals. Goals are measurable and specific.
Ok, am I sounding too much like a nerd yet?
I pondered said goals over breakfast:
- Plain OIKOS
- Fruit and Nut Granola
- Banana
My New Year’s Resolutions Goals for 2010
1. Graduate: Graduating from college is something I have been waiting for for SO long!! Ok… waiting isn’t the right word. Try WORKING for.
2. Find a meaningful (or at least semi) job: My goal is to get my foot in the door this year. I will hopefully graduate in August, and will have a few months to search for something in my career path. I am cool with starting small, but I just want to get my foot in the door.
3. Make exercising fun: Confession: I actually don’t really enjoy exercising. SHOCK!!! Yes, I love running, but to me it doesn’t really feel like exercise, it’s more of a hobby to me. I want to take some time to learn to enjoy other activities. For instance…
- Biking
- Swimming
- Yoga
- Trail Running
- Strength training
- Tennis
- kayaking?
4. Maintain my running fitness. After my half marathon last December (2008) I pretty much lost all my running fitness. It got really hard to run 5 miles, which really should be no big deal at this point. I want to keep my fitness level up so that I can race when I want to, go on a long run if I feel like it, or possibly train for another race without starting from scratch! My goal is to run 1000 miles in 2010! Can I do it?
5. Figure out what I want out of life. Ok, that’s pretty vague. I honestly have no idea what I want.
What goals have you set for yourself in 2010?

Don’t worry about #5 — most of us in our 40s still haven’t gotten that one figured out yet.
Happy New Year!
Ahhh I totaly relate to all your goals! I am getting ready to graduate from grad school this april and all of a sudden I need to start finding a job! Sooo stressful
Wow you’ve got some great goals there! I like the new sport idea, that’s good

I agree, don’t sweat number 5 – my mum didn’t find what she truly wanted out of life til she was 50!! Though whether that’s a good thing is another story :s
My main goal is to gain 14 pounds! I want to be much healthier and happier this year
And enter more races – (though I hope my first half marathon goes alright first..one step at a time!) I’m inspired by your marathon running
Have a great day!
Great goals meg!!
Dude, I’m right there with you on sweating number five. And now that you mention it…two. I have a list of my resolutions next to my computer and number 1 is: “Figure out my life path.” HAHAH what a dramatic way to put it, huh??
Marathon in six days!! EEEEE!
wow great goals. i’m totally stressing over #2 at the moment. eeek!
Great goals girl!!! Running 1000 miles, I bet you will do it!!!! Happy New Year!!!!!!!!
You’ve got great goals and I love that they’re really a mix of measurable, specific goals and pie-in-the-sky dream big goals. 2010 is going to be a GREAT year!!
1,000 miles is a huge goal! (for my standards at least). I’m sure if you put your mind to it you can do it!
You are too cute! I am the same way about exercise (GASP) I LOVE LOVE LOVE running and do it to an extreme for sure! But I would like to be a little more well-rounded in my exercise. The problem is I don’t like anything but running. But I did sign up for a Yoga for Runner’s class..that counts right?
I prefer goals over resolutions, too. Great goals! I put mine up on my blog a few days back.

Feel the same about resolutions, goals are better and yours are great. Good luck and have a kick butt party when you graduate this year.
Kayaking is SO much fun and a huge upper body work-out! I love it!
These are wonderful goals! 1000 miles? What does that average weekly? Hmmm, I knew I should have studied math a bit more.
Good for you for setting yourself up for a successful year.
Great goals! You come across as so healthy and mature in your blog- it’s really inspiring. When I was a senior in college (not too long ago, I’m 27) my diet consisted of bagels, cheez its, drinking and all sorts of unhealthiness. All of my friends were like that, and I just assumed it was the norm. Even my doctor told me it was okay that I had high cholesterol because I was in college and it was “temporary.” Long story short, you’ve already achieved so much and are waaay ahead of the curve. Thanks for being such an inspiration!
after my half marathon in october i pretty much haven’t ran much. one of my goals for 2010 is to run another half marathon, and i pretty much feel like i’ll have to start from scratch due to my lack of running! i know its possible but the thought of starting over makes me nervous now that i think about it!

[...] to Comments It may be a few days overdue, but I think I’ve figured out my 2010 goals. Like Megan, I’ve decided to look at them as goals, not resolutions. To me, this makes them appear as a [...]
I love your goals! I lost my running fitness after a half marathon in April 2008 and it took me really until now to be comfortable again. I’m doing a half this April and my goal is that after that I’ll keep it up and not “lose” it again
Yup, “goals are measureable and specific” is exactly what I have to do every year when I have a review at work.
By the way, what kind of civil are you? What kind of job are you looking for?
