It’s All Greek to Me!

Tonight for dinner, I met up with Meghann! She mentioned that she had been craving Greek food all week, so we tried out a restaurant near her house, Cypriana.

When we arrived, the place looked very “authentic”.

I really had no idea what I felt like eating. I didn’t really snack this afternoon, so I was pretty hungry. I ended up ordering the vegetarian pita pizza. I probably could have made it at home, but it still tasted good.

Meghann ordered a hummus type platter, and a side order of fries. I nibbled on a few of them.

I was a bit disappointed in the fact that everything was heavily drenched in garlic. It was quite overpowering. I was not really impressed that our waitress told us that they were out of falafel and tabouli, the two things that we really wanted.

It was very reasonably priced, so that was one plus. I’m not sure I would go again, but it wasn’t awful!

I like Greek food, but I am in general not a very picky eater. I actually feel sort of clueless eating at places like this. I never know what half the stuff means. I feel slightly uncultured.

… A Wave of tiredness just hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s been quite a busy weekend!! Goodnight!

  1. Oh, man…how could a Greek restaurant be outta flafel + tabouli? What a tragedy!

  2. Greek is one of my favourite types of cuisine, sorry to hear your experience was subpar!

  3. Aren’t those two dishes staple Greek food!? Bit of a weird Greek restaurant of they’ve ran out !
Haha I probably would have loved it there if everything was drenched in garlic..it’s my favourite :D

  4. I’m seriously procrastinating, so I’ll give you a link next time you feel like procrastinating ;) . Wiki does quite a good breakdown for you:

A good Greek restaurant should explain all the dishes to you, and let you order them a little like tapas- so you get to try a lot of different dishes… I hope you enjoyed your weekend ;)

  5. How can a Greek restaurant be out of both falafel and tabouli? Sorry that you had such a bad experience. Greek food is one of my favorite types of cuisine, hopefully you will give it another shot!

  6. I had some Greek food for the first time this past week, including baba ganoush. I really loved it!

  7. Pizza sounds good!!

  8. I feel like a greek place being out of falafel is like an Italian restaurant being out of pasta?!? That’s disappointing :-(

  9. meghann is sickly skinny. Tell her to gain some weight. Thats gross

  10. its true i used to read meghanns blog until she stopped eating and became obsessive with exercise. Now sshe looks even worse.

    • rob and jen:

you both do not have any manners. meghann is a real person with real feelings. just because you’re hiding behind the anonymity of the internet does not mean you get to be an ASSHOLE. would you say that to her face? no.

maybe you should go learn some manners.

    • What are you talking about? Meghann always has delicious looking meals!

  11. I love trying new cuisines! I’m with you- it’s hard to know what to pick when you don’t know what all the stuff on the menu means, but no better way to start learning then just trying it out :)

  12. I’m thinking that you feel uncultured for the same reason I do–THERE IS NO CULTURE IN ORLANDO!!! BAH. I say we take a trip to CHOW asap!!!

  13. Did you get a Nikon?? I saw a picture of you holding one on Meghann’s post!

  14. Everything drenched in garlic? That sounds like my kinda place! Actually, I’m trying to dial back my garlic consumption (to that of a normal person) because I’ve developed a tolerance to it and don’t taste it very much anymore :( It’s weird because I can’t really taste it (unless there’s tons), but I can tell you if it’s missing from a dish… Strange I know!

  15. I agree… I hardly know what stuff means, especially at Greek places. It’s all Greek to me.. haha.. ok yeah that was corny.

  16. How can a Greek restaurant run out of falafels and tabouli? I would have been bummed! As soon as I saw the title of your post, I immiediately thought of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”! Loved that movie!

  17. Seriously?!?! How can an authentic-claimed Greek restaurant be out of falafel and tabouli?? Isn’t that like a main staple??? Very Strange!!!

  18. I love, love, love greek food. As long as it’s good! I think I could happily exist solely on greek yogurt, greek salad, and pita bread w/ hummus :-)

  19. How do you run out of falafel?! And tabouli?! Seriously, you can go to any store and buy all the ingredients. So frustrating. Your pita pizza looked pretty good though!

  20. How does a Greek resturaunt run out of tabuoli? Seriously…crazy!

  21. that place does look very authentic! neat!
yuck I don’t like a ton of garlic!

  22. MMM… I love greek food! i don’t know what i would eat if they didn’t have tabouli or falafel though!

  23. Sheesh, that place doesn’t sound like great Greek food. No falafel!?

  24. Sorry to hear that you weren’t that happy with dinner – you will have to try somewhere else! Greek food is DELICIOUS!

  25. Ugh. I know exactly how you feel. One time Jas and I went to this Mediterranean restaurant and I could hardly understand anything on the menu..the combinations they had were really weird..so we just left :D Good job for sticking it out!

  26. If you like Greek food, Greek Corner is the best in Orlando. There is a wonderful outdoor seating area that has a lovely atmosphere, the food is totally authentic, and they are very reasonably priced. And cute waiters too ;)

  27. Falafel and tabouli aren’t exactly traditional Greek foods- more Middle Eastern.. I’m kinda surprised they serve them at all!
